The engineering log is a critical part of the notebook and one of the hardest to consistently produce. The engineering log needs to be a clear, complete, and detailed journal of your robot's journey from bolts in a drawer and models on a screen to a chassis with wheels and awesome mechanisms. However the log also needs to cover the overhead strategy and thinking behind the design choices your team makes for the robot, not just the localized day-to-day nuts and bolts of the project. Strategy-wise, we have a SWOT (Strength Weaknesses Opportunity and Threats) analysis after each competition and at the beginning of the season. These SWOTs cover the entire robot and are quite detailed. They lay out where we want to go next with the robot and provide guidance for our next design sprint.
