CAD - 2017-18

In the 2017-18 season, the team once again focused on design before build. Everything on the robot with some minor exceptions was designed in Fusion 360 prior to construction. 

In addition to 3D printing, the team also expanded their material library to HDPE plastic sheets which they routed with a CNC router. The chassis and other major component platforms were routed from plastic sheets and the rest was printed from a variety of materials (ABS, onyx, onyx with carbon fiber inlays, and carbon fiber).

 

A big thanks to Jacobs Engineering for allowing us to use their high-tech printers for the onyx and carbon fiber prints as well as for teaching us to use their CNC router.

Drive Train Gear Box

Built from a combination of 3D-printed onyx and carbon fiber plates, this gear box gives us a 1.6 gear ratio. All of our gear boxes are easily removable which lets us make motor and design modifications quickly and efficiently.
